PROMINENT S.L. MUSICIAN DIES

Mrs. Leila Merrill Allen, 76, widow of David Robert Allen, died Wednesday of causes incident to age at the ome of a son, Frank S. Allen, 1441 Yale avenue.
Mrs. Allen, a well known musician and student of astronomy, was a member of one of Utah's best known families of educators.
She was born in Salt Lake City September 6, 1863, a daughter of Clarence and Bathsheba Smith Merrill. She attended the old Social Hall school and the University of Deseret.
In 1882 she was married to David Robert Allen, who later became professor of mathematics and astronomy at the University of Utah.
Surviving are three sons, George M. Allen, dean of the school of engineering at Columbia University, New York City; Clarence B. Allen of the Western Reserve university faculty, Cleveland, Ohio, and Frank S. Allen, principal of the Irving lower division high school in Salt Lake City.
