Shirley A. Ellsworth, age 83 of Baxter Springs, KS passed from this life Monday, November 28, 2011 at St. John's Hospital, Joplin, MO.

Shirley was born July 5, 1928 in Galena, KS.

She was raised by Harry and Emma Black.

She graduated from Baxter Springs High School and then attended nursing school in Muskogee, OK.

She was united in marriage to Frank Ellsworth, August 7, 1953 in Columbus, Kansas.

She was a member of the O.E.S., Weir, KS. She was a member of the past Matron and Patrons Club. She served on the Senior Citizens board of directors. She was a founding member of CLASS Ltd. She was a member of the Baxter Springs Fire Department Auxiliary. She was active in the local Red Cross and Area Emergency Disaster Association (AEDA). She took part in United Methodist Woman's group. She was a board member of the Cherokee County Mental Health, now known as Family Life Center.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Baxter Springs, KS.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Survivors include one son Stacy Ellsworth and wife Dorothy of Baxter Springs, KS; and one granddaughter JoJo Ellsworth of Baxter Springs, KS.

Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m., Friday, December 2, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church. Rev. Wayne Handle will officiate.

In lieu of flowers family ask for memorial contributions be made to Foundation for CLASS Ltd.; Galena United Methodist Church (Building Fund); or United Methodist Student Fund all in care of the funeral home.
