Virginia Mae Sturgeon, age 87 of Baxter Springs, Ks passed from this life Sunday, October 25, 2009 at Quaker Hill Nursing Facility.

Virginia was born March 26, 1922 in Baxter Springs, Ks to the union of Albert and Amy (Vanetta) Bash.

She was united in marriage to Carl Perry Sturgeon on May 15, 1939 in Baxter Springs. He precedes her in death.

She spent her life loving and caring for her family and friends.

Virginia is preceded in death by two sons Raymond Sturgeon and Carl P. Sturgeon Jr; along with three sisters.

She is survived by one daughter Susie Frank and husband Charles of Columbus, Ks; four brothers Leroy Bash and Clayton Bash both of Texas, Leslie Bash of Joplin, Mo, and James Bash of Galena, Ks; one sister Ruby Jenkins of Galena, Ks; one Daughter-In-Law Gayla Sturgeon of Riverton, Ks; Four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs, Ks. Pastor Dallas Satterfield will officiate.

Family will receive friends Monday evening from 7:00- 8:00 p.m. at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel.

Burial will be in the Lowell Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers family ask memorial donation be made to Quaker Hill Skilled Nursing or Cancer research.

Aunt Virginia was NOT born on March 3, 1922.
It's still wrong on the Derfelt's Baxter Chapel
site, but they do have it correct at the top.

Update: Their site, the Joplin Globe online has been corrected to the 16th. The Joplin Globe, Galena Sentinel-Times and the Baxter News papers have not been corrected. We didn't remember the Columbus Advocate, so it is still wrong.

Mistakes happen, and I appreciate Derfelt's Baxter Chapel attempt to correct their mistake.

Note: Aunt Virginia was actually born on 26 March, Her tombstone says the 26th, so I don't know how it got to be the 16th. I'm changing this to agree with the Baxter Springs Birth Register and her tombstone.

One surviving younger sister, Nora Ann Bash has been left out of the obit.
