Gene and his siblings were left fatherless in 1936 when Willie passed away at the age of 47. Gene started to work around age 15 at the old Geenen's Department Store on College Avenue in Appleton. He was a real people person and he seemed to 'know everyone.' He later started a 30 year career at Kimberly Clark.
Gene was renowned for his baking skills, always bringing over one of his creations during visits.
Gene passed away 22 May 1996 and was cremated. His ashes spent some time with his brother, but after 1998 he was laid to rest with his mother, Caroline, at Saint Joseph's Cemetery in Appleton.
