OBITUARY - CONLEY
Mr. P.H. Conley, for forty three years an attorney in this city, died at the home of Mrs. Owen Conley, on October 30, 1928, after a lingering illness (Carcinoma of stomach). Mr. Conley was born in Ireland (probably County Monaghan), January 10, 1850, an came to this country with his parents at he age of five years (1854). (The family settled in Willow Springs.)
After finishing Darlington High School he taught school for a number of years, before entering the University of Wisconsin in 1878.
In 1879 he started studying law with Magoon & O'Keefe, and was admitted to the bar in August, 1880. May 20, 1889, he was united in marriage to Eva M. Foster, of Monroe, who preceded him to the grave in 1925. He has held the offices of district Attorney, mayor of Darlington, Captain of the local Company of the National Guards (Co. K, 1st Regiment), treasurer of the fair, secretary of the fire and police commission, president of the historical society, president of the Commercial Club and Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus.
He was a man of extensive travels in Europe and America. He moved to California in 1921. After the death of Mrs. Conley he made his home with his sister, Mrs. Hugh J. (Sarah)Gallagher, and after her death with Mrs. Owen Conley.
Surviving are one brother, E.F. (Edward Francis) Conley of this city, and one sister, Mrs. Hugh (Catherine "Kate" Conley) Corcoran, of Spencer, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Friday morning from Holy Rosary church, and interment was in Holy Rosary cemetery.
