JOSEPH A. GOOKIN

Joseph A. Gookin, oldest son of Clark and Mary Gookin was born in Lucas county, October 30, 1869, and departed this life March 26, 1948, at the age of 78 years, four months and 28 days.

On February 25, 1891, he was united in marriage to Lulu B. Adams. To this union six children were born, Herman of Cooke City, Montana, Nora Stevenson of Englewood, Colo., Arthur of Russell, Harold of Marysville, Calif., Lester of Chariton, and Dwight of Oakland, Calif., who with the loving wife are left to mourn their loss.

He was converted at the age of sixteen and united with the Evangelical church, living a faithful consistent Christian life to the end.

His entire life was spent in the vicinity of Russell and Chariton until 1925 when the family moved to Englewood, Colo., where he was living at the time of his death.

In addition to the wife and children he leaves four brothers, Langdon of Greeley, Colo., William of Plardin, Mont., Harley of Salem, Ore., and Thomas of Olivet, Ill., and three sisters, Mrs. A. V. Carson of Belmont, Iowa, Mrs. C. C. Poush and Mrs. Elmer Poush, both of Chariton. Also nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Final rites were held Thursday, April 1 at 2:00 o'clock at the Beardsley funeral home. The Rev. A. E. Beals of Russell officiated. Burial was made at Chariton cemetery.
