DEATH OF CLARK GOOKIN
Clark, the son of Langdon and Martha Gookin, was born in Noble county, Ohio, July 16, 1842, and died July 28, 1917, aged 75 years and 12 days. At the age of 11 years he moved with his parents to Lucas county, Iowa, where he spent the rest of his life.
On Nov. 4, 1868, he was married to Mary Myers, of Lucas county. To this union was born ten children, of which 2 died in infancy. He leaves to mourn his loss a faithful wife and 8 children - Joe and Langdon, of this county; Will C., of Sarpy, Mont.; Mrs. Rose Carlson, of Wayne county; Rev. Thomas A., of Olivet, Ill.; Mrs. Hattie Poush, Harlie Gookin, and Mrs. Addie Poush, of Lucas county, and 31 grandchildren.
Mr. Gookin was of a family of 8 children, 5 of which have preceded him to the great beyond, leaving two brothers, Thomas and Ortilla Gookin of Chariton, and a host of relatives and friends. In 1880 he was converted and joined the Evangelical church, of which he was a member until the time of his death.
He was a true, faithful husband and a loving father. For over five months he has been confined to his bed, and never in his life was he more patient in time of affliction, many times expressing his faith in prayer and in Jesus Christ as his great burden bearer. A few weeks ago he said that all was well with his soul and that he was ready to go. In the last hours of his life, these words came from his lips, "Take me home, take me home."
Funeral service was conducted at the Nazarene church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. W. L. Fear, pastor, being in charge. Interment was made in the Chariton cemetery.
