LULU GOOKIN

Lulu Blanche, daughter of Martin V. and Zilpha Ann Adams, was born near Adamsville, Muskingum county, Ohio, May 20, 1869, and departed this life at her home in Englewood, Colo., Aug. 4, 1964, at the age of 95 years, two months and 14 days.

She was the daughter of one of Iowa's pioneer families, having moved to Story county when she was two months old, and living there for five years. They moved to Lucas county, Iowa, locating on a farm near Russell in the Ragtown school district.

Here she grew to young womanhood and on February 25, 1891, she was united in marriage to Joseph A. Gookin. To this union were born six children, five of whom survive. The home was established in Lucas county, which remained their home until 1925 when they moved to Colorado.

In her early life she accepted Christ as her Saviour and throughout the years her faith has remained steadfast.

She was preceded in death by her husband March 26, 1948, and her youngest son, Dwight Leo, June 25, 1958. Survivors inlude her five children, Herman of Joliet, Mont.; Nora Stevenson of Englewood, Colo.; Arthur of Russell; Harold of Denver, Colo.; and Lester of Chariton. Also ten grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

During her past few years her health has declined but she remained cheerful and uncomplainin. She has been tenderly cared for during this time by her daughter. She looked forward with great pleasure to visit with her children and grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 8, 1964 at the Beardsley-Fielding Funeral Home. The Rev. V. E. Sitehall officiated at the services. Interment was in the Chariton cemetery.
