MRS. S. E. WILLITS

The many friends of the family were greatly shocked to learn of the death of Mrs. S. E. Willits, which occurred at her home in Chariton on Friday afternoon, March 31, 1922, after a brief illness.

Largely attended funeral services, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. A. Pettit, assisted by Rev. Frank Bean of the M. E. church, were held at the Baptist church on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Chariton cemetery.

Marietta Adams, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. V. Adams, was born near Adamsville, Muskingum county, Ohio, on August 15, 1866. In 1889 she, with her parents, removed to Story county, Iowa, where they lived for five years, and then moved to Lucas county and located on a farm near Russell. In early life she united with the Lutheran church and has since been faithful to her trust in God.

In 1889 she was united in marriage to Samuel Edgar Willits. To this union two children were born, a son and daughter, both of whom died in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. Willits moved from their farm in Benton township to Chariton in 1908, where they have since resided.

Mrs. Willits had been in poor health for several months, although her condition was not thought serious until a couple of weeks ago, when she suffered another attack of the flu. Death soon came to claim the life of a noble woman, one who was so faithful to her home life and dear ones, a life that has left its influence for good, and one who will be greatly missed by relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother and one brother. Those who survive her are her husband, Samuel E. Willits, two brothers, Omer E. Adams of Kansas City, Kansas; and Tillman Bruce Adams of Philadelphia, Penn.; and four sisters, Mrs. Lulu B. Gookin of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Maude Goltry of Chariton; Mrs. Arminta B. Plotts and Miss Carrie Adams, of Omaha, Nebr., besides other relatives and a large circle of friends. To all these sorrowing ones the sympathy of the community will be extended.
