Eliza Wilhelmia (sic) Tatkenhorst

Eliza Wilhelmina Tatkenhorst, nee Meier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Meier, was born April 22, 1862, in Bartholemy (sic) county, Indiana. Soon there after she was baptized. On April 19, 1876 she was confirmed and received as a communicant member of the Lutheran church.

On April 15, 1880, she was united in marriage to William Tatkenhorst. This union was blessed with four daughters and two sons. In 1892 this family came to Lincoln county, Kansas, and settle on a farm southeast of Lincoln. They became members of St. John Lutheran church in which she remained a faithful member until her death which occurred on June 6, 1950, at the age of 88 years, one month and 14 days.

She was preceded in death by her husband and three daughters: Emma Tatkenhorst, Mrs. Minnie Bolte, Mrs. Martha Rosebrook.

Her departure is mourned by one daughter, Mrs. Lena Wiegert and two sons, John Tatkenhorst and Ben Tatkenhorst; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; four brothers and two sisters and many other relatives and friends.

Phil. 1:21. "For me to live in Christ, and to die is gain."

The funeral service was conducted from St. John Lutheran church by the Rev. H. C. Lubeck and burial was made in the church cemetery on June 8, 1950.
