Suggested edit: Helena Goodwin was the sixth child and fourth daughter born to Jacie and Belle Goodwin of Manitou, Oklahoma. She was born in the home of her parents April 14, 1916. Helena was very talented musically. She could sing and play the piano by ear. Her parents had a piano in their home and Helena and all of her sisters took piano lessons.

During the Thanksgiving holidays of 1936, Helena married Oran Marcom from Frederick. However, after a few months the couple had their marriage annulled.

Helena then went into the nurses training program at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. When she graduated from nursing school in 1939, she practiced nursing at several different hospitals, the last was at General Hospital in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Helena died Wednesday, October 28, 1987, at the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Frederick, Oklahoma, following almost forty years of confinement at a treatment center for depression. She was 71 years of age.

Helena's funeral service was held at Gish Memorial Chapel with her younger brother, the Rev. Virgil Goodwin of Isla of Palms, South Carolina, officiating. After the service, she was laid to rest near the graves of her parents at the Frederick Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors included three sisters, Mrs. Crystal Ochsner of Chattanooga, Oklahoma, Mrs. Estelle Roberts of South Dakota, Mrs. Hazel Mae Atkins of Clearlake, California; and two brothers, Marvin Goodwin of Manitou, and the Rev. Virgil Goodwin of Isle Palms, South Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Jack and Woodrow, and two sisters, Leilar Goodwin and Myrtle Goodwin.

Helena Goodwin FREDERICK — Funeral for Helena Goodwin, 71, Frederick, will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Gish Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Virgil Goodwin, Isle of Palms, S.C., officiating. She died Wednesday morning in a Frederick nursing home after a lengthy illness. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Cemetery. She was born April 14, 1916, in Manitou. She was a resident of Pioneer Manor, Frederick, and was a lifelong resident of Tillman County. She was a retired nurse and a Baptist. Survivors include three sisters: Crystal Ochsner, Chattanooga; Estelle Roberts, Pierre, S.D.; and Hazel Mae Atkins, Clearlake, Calif.; two brothers: Marvin Goodwin, Manitou; and the Rev. Virgil Goodwin, Isle Of Palms.
