Hazel Mae's husband, Arthur Bill Atkins, Sr., was born at Frederick, Tillman County, Oklahoma, in 1921. Bill and Hazel Mae were married in the Manitou Baptist Church parsonage on May 9, 1940.
The couple moved to California prior to World War II where Bill joined the Navy. He served for two and one-half years on a submarine in the Southwest Pacific. Hazel Mae, along with other service men's wives, worked in the ship yards where they made war materials.
The couple had three children. Darita Jean Atkins Stroup, Arthur Bill "Billy" Atkins, Jr. , and Wynona Atkins Brandt. All three children were born in Richmond, California. When the children started to school, Hazel Mae worked as a teacher's aide.
Arthur Bill Atkins, Sr. died May 5, 1989, three days prior to Hazel Mae, at the age of 68 years. Bill and Hazel had been separated for several years before their deaths. Hazel had stayed in California where they had always lived. Bill had come back to Davidson where his family lived. Both were buried in the Hackberry Cemetery near Hollister, Tillman County, Oklahoma. Both were survived by their three children.
