Pallbearers: Ben Spurgin, George R. Spurgin, Lawrence O. Diamond, George W. Owens, Jr., Lloyd Blaylock, Louis Blaylock.

J TOM OWENS LOSES 108-DAY DEATH BATTLE
Tall, bulky James Thomas Owens, 43, lumberman and investments dealer in Dallas for a quarter of a century, lost his fight against slow death at the Dallas Medical and
Surgical Clinic Tuesday.

A man of magnificent strength, brown-haired, brown-eyed and powerful, he had beaten off death from bacterial endocarditis, a form of heart infection, for 108 days. At one time, his brother Shriners called for volunteers for the numerous blood transfusions he underwent. He died at 3:10 a.m.

The Rev W D Bradfield and the Rev Marshall t Steel will conduct funeral services at the residence, 4211 Lakeside drive, Highland Harp, at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Mr Owens was born at Lancaster, the son of the Rev and Mrs George W Owens. He was graduated from Oak Cliff High School and old Polytechnic College in Fort Worth. For
thirty years he was identified with the George W Owens Lumber Company, which his father, a Methodist minister, founded more than forty years ago. He was president of the firm from 1918 to 1934, when he retired to open an investment and real estate loan business.A Mason, Knight Templar, and Shriner, he sered Hella Temple Shrine as potentate in 1928.

He formerly lived in Grand Prairie and in 1915 was Mayor of the town.

Mr Owens was a lay leader at the First Methodist Church, South, and, with his wife gave the congregation its pipe organ. In 1931, he headed the Community Chest. He was a
member of the Brook Hollow Golf Club and Dallas Athletic Club and called golf and church work his hobbies.

Survivors are his wife, the former Virginia Roberts, two sisters, Mrs R B Spurgin and Mrs Lawrence Dimond; two brothers, Everett S Owens and George W Owens, all of Dallas.
