At the age of 18, Rasmus Arndt Nordtomme, Robert Nordtome, sailed from Trondhjem, Norway to the United States. His ship landed in Philadelphia. He proceeded at once to Wisconsin, where he found work as a carpenter. Later he was employed in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is there he met and married Carrie Sneen. In 1888, they moved to the Flathead Valley, Montana. They pre-empted a tract of land three miles northwest of where Kalispell now stands. He was the last surviving member of the Scandinavian M.E.church. He helped build and found the church in the early days when people wanted to worship in their native language.
