HARTINGTON -- Edgar J. Becker, 93, Hartington, died Jan. 6, 2006, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, S.D.
Visitation, with a rosary and a Vigil service, were at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.
Funeral services were Jan. 9 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, with Rev. John Pietramale officiating.
Burial was at the St. Michael's cemetery, Hartington.
Pallbearers were Cal Kathol, Chad Kathol, Brian Becker, Justin Becker, Jamie Becker, and in memory, Kyle Becker.
Edgar John Becker was born Nov. 10, 1912, to John and Elizabeth (Klug) Becker in St. Helena. He grew up in the St. Helena area, attending District 57 School for eight years. He helped with the family farm and he and his brother, Alphonse, farmed together until Edgar married Viola Clara Rupiper Jan. 9, 1939, in Fordyce. After their marriage, he and Viola moved to the Hartington area where he farmed and raised his family. They owned and operated the Drive In Theater for many years in Hartington. They retired to their home in Hartington in 1980 and to Beverly Assisted Living in August 2004.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Ministry of Praise, and enjoyed playing cards with his friends.
Survivors include his wife, Viola, Hartington; five children and spouses, Jolene Kathol, Hartington; Robert Becker, Bowman, N.D.; Connie and Dave Wolfgram, Omaha; DelRae and Bill Schaeufele, Norfolk; Roland and Barb, Hartington; 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; one brother, Alphonse "Dick" Becker, Albandy, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Gene Kathol; grandchildren, Brenda Kathol, Laura and Kyle Becker, and Aubyn Kathol; six brothers, Art, Fred, Ray, Arnold, J. W. "Sep," and Gilbert Becker; and three sisters, Elsie Bonertz, Lucinda Schulte and Laura Sudbeck.
