Shirley Amanda Frank, daughter of Jacob and Alice (Griffith) Baker was born on a farm southwest of Carleton on Oct. 3, 1901, and died at the Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home in Hebron on Aug. 18 at the age of 90.At the age of 16 she and her parents moved to a farm northwest of Carleton where she spent her girlhood years, attending school at District 15 and graduating from Carleton High School in 1920.She was baptized in the Brethren Church at Carleton on Nov. 27, 1916 and was a member of that church until it closed when she transferred her letter to the Bethel Church of the Brethren northwest of Carleton and was a member of the women's fellowship. In February, 1924 she was united in marriage to Harry J. Frank at Belleville, Kan.   To this union one son, Robert was born.  Her husband Harry died may 4, 1931.  She and her son then moved to the county to live with her parents until 1942 when her father died and she, her mother and Robert moved to Carleton where she resided until her death. During 1942 and 1943 she worked at the Grand Island Bomber Plant and at the Bruning and Fairmont Air Bases until they closed. In 1954 she and her sister-in-law Thelma Baker purchased the Carleton Cafe which she operated for 19 years. They sold the cafe in 1973 and she retired to spend the remaining years among family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry; her parents; one brother, Frank; a sister, Linnie and a brother-in-law, Aaron Zehr of Shickley. Survivors include one son, Robert and his wife Lenora; two grandchildren, James and wife Barbara of Des Moines, Iowa and Linda Sattler and husband Gregory of Lincoln; three great-grandchildren; Barton and Christopher Sattler of Lincoln and Jonathan Frank of Des Moines; a sister-in-law, Thelma Baker of Geneva and four nieces, Wilma Faye Bailey of Geneva, Mary Paul of Shickley, Ona Meyer of California and Judy Ronan of Arizona, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Aug. 21 from the Bethel Church of the Brethren near Carleton with Pastor Mike Row officiating.   Marge Dowdy was the organist for musical selections. Pallbearers were Max Dowdy, Norman Walker, Gardie Beavers, Don Braun, Don Widler and Albert Miller. Interment was in the Carleton City Cemetery.
Memorials may go to the American Cancer Society. Price Funeral Home of Hebron was in charge of the arrangements.
