She is descended from two prominent and wealthy families in the Johnston-Wake County Area -- the Rands and Mials. She was the paternal granddaughter of Walter Rand & Mary Parker of Isle of Wight and Wake County, NC; and gr-grandchild of William Rand of Kent, England who married Sophia Almand in Isle of Wight, VA. On her mother's side, she was the maternal grandchild of Thomas & Pherabee Mial (Miles) of Wake County.
Elizabeth's mother died when she was about 8 years old, and two years later her father married (2nd) Nancy Hinton Jewel/Jewell, by whom he had at least 5 more children. (Her parents are reportedly buried on the Rand Plantation, which was located in St. Mary's, now Garner, Wake Co, NC.)
She was 16 years old when she married 22-year old Troy Baucom on February 18, 1852; son of wealthy planters, Urias Baucom and Elizabeth Lee of Clayton, Johnston Co, NC.
The couple farmed in the Auburn-St. Mary's (Garner) area of Wake County, where they raised 8 known children: Mary Adelaid "Addie" (1853), who married Joseph A. Stallings; John "Milton" Baucom (1855), who married Rena Penny; unnamed infant (1857); George Urias Baucom (1859), who married Lillian Allen; Victoria Amelia (1861-1846); Eva (1872); and Eliza W. (1874-1882).
Elizabeth died in 1898 at age 62. Her husband passed the following hear at age 72. They are both buried in Mount Moriah along with several children and grandchildren.
