George Urias Baucom, was born 1859 in St. Mary's (Auburn), Wake County, NC, the 4th of 8 known surviving children (3 boys/5 girls) born to farmers Troy Baucom and his wife, Elizabeth Ann Rand.

He is descended on both sides of his family from two of the wealthiest planters in Wake County. He was the paternal grandson of Urias Baucom & Elizabeth Lee of Wake; and gr-grandson of John Baucom Jr. (1755-1840). On his mother's side, he was the grandson of Nathaniel Green Rand & Pherabee Parker of Wake County. Both the Baucoms and Rands saw their wealth greatly diminished after the Civil War, but they were still prominent citizens in their communities and substantial landowners.

George Baucom was 25 years old when he married 17-year old Lillian Irene Allen on November 24, 1884, daughter of Charles Nicholas Allen & Carrie Virginia Johns of Wake Co.

The couple farmed in the Auburn area of Wake County and were parents to 10 known surviving children (5 boys/5 girls): Foy Hope (1885), George Jr. (1887-1963), Roy Allen (1889-1970), Harry Lee (1890-1967), Meta Gertrude (1892-1952), Lillian Irena (1894-1982), Troy (1899-1977), Candace Johns (1901), John Reynolds (1903-1974), and Genevieve (1906-1991).

Son, Harry Lee Baucom (1890-1967) married 3 times and is buried in Wilmington, NC

Son, John Reynolds Baucom (1903-1974) buried in Wilmington.
