Matthew Hanna Parry was the son of John Parry and Martha "Patsy" Hanna. He was the grandson of Matthew Hanna and Martha Montgomery. He married his cousin Jane Telford McKee, daughter of John T. McKee, on 5 Jun 1831 in Rockbridge Co., VA, James Paine, Presbyterian, officiating. Plus their marriage date and children were listed in the John T. McKee Family bible. After her passing, he married second to Mary Ann Laird (born 10 Dec 1820), the daughter of Samuel Laird, on 28 Aug 1850 and had about 14 children.

On the 19 Aug 1850 District 2 1/2, Augusta Co., Virginia census, I found farmer Matthew Perry, 44; Mary E Perry, 18; Martha Perry, 16; Nannie Perry, 14; Susan Perry, 12; Charlotte Perry, 8; John Perry, 6; Jane Perry, 4 and farmer Horace Fuller, 17, all Virginia born (Census taken 11 days before he married Mary).

On the 25 Jun 1860 District 3, Rockbridge Co., Virginia census, I found farmer M H Parry, 54, with $10K in real estate and $4K in personal property; (2nd wife) M Ann, 39; Mary, 29; Martha, 27; Susan, 25; Nannie, 25; Charlotte, 18; John, 16; Jane, 15; Charles, 7; Wm, 3; Fanny, 8/12, all Virginia born.

On the 1870 Natural Bridge, Rockbridge Co., Virginia census, I found farmer Mathew H Parry, 64, with $10K in real estate and $2K in personal property; Mary Ann Parry, 49; Susan B Parry, 30; Charlotte D Parry, 26; Jane T Parry, 24; laborer Charles E Parry, 17; attending schools William R Parry, 13; school Harry L Parry, 8 and at home Alexander C Parry, 6, all Virginia born. Also living with them were Sarah Laird, 43; laborer Isaac Chapman, 50; Charlotte Adams, 20; Nannie Adams, 9/12; laborer Milton Adams, 25; Mary M C Laird, 5/12; visiting: Susan E Pollock, 56; Kate Pollock, 18 and Effie Bakenell Pollock, 12.

The 10 Jun 1873 issue of the Staunton Spectator says "Mathew H. Parry, Esq. of Rockbridge, "three score and ten" is dead."

Following Matthew's 1873 death, I believe his widow Mary A. Parry moved to South River, Augusta Co., Virginia. She was list there on the 1880 census, living with her daughter Mary E. Parry, 36, now Mrs. Joseph L. Alexander and her family: Joseph 46; John W., 7; Sarah B., 6; Jos L., 2; Joseph's brother Gabriel, 48; 2 servants and his "Aunt, Mary A. Parry, "90", all Virginia born.

Matthew is listed on the 1981 inventory of the church by Rev. H. Middleton Raynal and Jeanne D. Mead in section E-2.
