James Riley Harris

James Riley Harris was born April 04, 1892 in Rogersville, Hawkins County, Tennessee and passed away on August 23, 1944 in Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois. He was the son of Riley and Nealie Harris.

He married Lula Keirsey on November 20, 1912, in Hawkins County, Tennessee.

He was the father of Daisy Summers, James Harris, Louise Brunk , Mildred Johnston, Wyman Harris, Brite Randall Harris, Floyd Harris, Twyla Walton, Iva Harris, Willard Harris, Paul Harris, and Robert Harris.

Survived by wife Lulia; five daughters, Mrs. Willard Bennett, Mrs. Emory Johnson, Mrs. Franklin Brunk, Miss Twilia Mae and Mrs. Iva Harris, all of city; six Sons, Sgt. James Harris, Brentwood, N.Y., Sgt. Wyman Harris Camp Breckenridge, Ky.; Pvt. Randall Harris, Ft. Sheridan, Ill; Corp. Floyd Harris, overseas; Paul Richard and Robert Harris, city. Remains have been removed to the Bisch and Son Memorial home.

James Harris Is Killed By Truck

Victim Has Four Sons In Service.

James Harris, 908 East Carpenter street, was killed instantly at 4 a.m. yesterday when struck by a tractor-trailer truck at Ninth and Carpenter streets. He was 52 years old and was the father of four boys in service.
The driver of the truck, William Casner, Overland, Mo., was quoted by police as saying he was traveling south on Ninth street about 25 miles an hour when he saw Harris. The man said he flashed his lights and blew his horn, and when that failed to halt Harris, he pulled over in the west lane of traffic, only to have the man walk in the path of his truck.

Surviving are his wife, Lulia; five daughters, Mrs. Willard Bennet, Mrs. Emory Johnston, Mrs. Franklin Brunk, Miss Twila Mae Harris and Miss Iva Harris, all of this city; six sons, Sgt. James of Brentwood, N.Y.; Sgt. Wyman, Camp Breckenridge, Ky.; Pvt. Randall, Ft. Sheridan; Corp. Floyd, now overseas, and Paul and Robert, Springfield.

Remains were removed to the Bisch funeral home.

James Harris of Springfield, formerly of Waverly, was killed instantly about 4 o'clock Wednesday morning when he was hit by a tractor-trailer truck at Ninth and Carpenter streets in Springfield. He was 52 years of age. Surviving are his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Willard Bennett, Mrs. Emory Johnston, Mrs. Franklin Brunk, Miss Twila Mae and Miss Iva Harris, all of Springfield; and six sons, Sgt. James, of Brentwood, N.Y., Sgt. Wyman of Camp Breckenridge, Ky., Pvt. Randal, of Ft. Sheridan. Cpl. Floyd, overseas, and Paul and Robert, of Springfield.
