Mrs. A. Alloway Dies; Was Active In Girl Scouting



Mrs. Ada G. Alloway, 83, a resident of the Blair Christian Home, Duncansville RD, formerly of 316 23rd Ave., died at 8 a.m. today, Dec 14, 1977, in Altoona Hospital, after an extended illness.

A charter member of the Fourth Street Church of God, Mrs. Alloway served as a Sunday School teacher for 50 years. She was also a member of the church council for 10 years.

In 1970, the church held a service in recognition for Mrs. Alloway's efforts at the church.

Active in scouting, Mrs. Alloway serves as head cook for the Blair Bedford Boy Scout camp for 20 years and for the Altoona Girl Scout Camp for three years. She also served as a Girl Scout leader for 10 years.

A charter member of the American Women's Volunteer Services since World War II, she was chairman of the Golden Age Club, sponsored by the AWVS and served as president of the Altoona Chapter Needle Guild of America.

She was also a member of the Salvation Army Auxiliary, having served as secretary; and Retired Railroad Employees Unit.

A volunteer worker at Altoona VA Hospital, she served a total of 1,700 hours.

In 1972, Mrs. Alloway was recipient of the Altoona Area Chamber of Commerce George Award, given in recognition of her volunteer service in the community.

She was born Jan. 9, 1894, in Bellwood, a daughter of Elmer and Elizabeth (Smith) Henry, and married Walter J. Alloway on Sept 19, 1917, in the Fourth Street Church of God. Mr. Alloway died May 25, 1954.

Surviving are three children, Mrs. Ruth Grogan of Gallitzin, Mrs. Ivy Gallaher of Wilmore and Roy of Harrisburg; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a brother and two sisters, Roy of Meadville, Mrs. Pearl Trostle of Altoona and Mrs. Sarah Borst of Phillipsburg, N.J.

Friends will be received in the Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Juniata, from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday and in the Fourth Street Church of God from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday.
