Frank was born and raised on Buck Mountain. He was the youngest of 11 children born to Theo and Annie Brightenstine. He joined the C.C.C. as a young man, and worked on various ranches for several years before becoming a State Brand Inspector in the Paso Robles area and then transfered to Humboldt County where he was the Brand Inspector for his remaining work years. When he retired he moved to Redding, CA.
His first wife was Jenny May Brush and after her death he married Marilyn.
