July 14, 1944 issue of the New-Sentinel, Fort Wayne, Indiana One Soldier from Here Killed; Two Missing Pvt. Keith Harter, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Harter of the Lima Road, has been reported killed in action. Private Harter, an infantryman, was killed in action in Italy on June 24. He was graduated from North Side High School in 1943 and was a meter reader for the City Utilities before entering the service September 29, 1943. He also was a prominent member of the City Light softball team. After training at Camp Blanding, Florida and Camp Meade, Maryland he went overseas March 18, 1944. He was a member of the First Church of God. Plans were made to have a memorial service for Keith. Reverend T. M. Tucker from First Church of God officiated over the service. The following write-up appeared in the October 19, 1944 Journal-Gazette.
