GRANITE FALLS - Donel Bain Fowler, 82, of Rt. 3, Granite Falls, died early Sunday morning in an area hospital after a period of declining health.
A retired cabinet maker, he was married to the former Mattie Smith, who died in 1975.
He was born May 7, 1894, in Caldwell County to the late Lawson A. and Mary Sherrill Fowler. Fowler held membership at Grace Chapel United Methodist Church in Granite Falls.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Irene LaFevre of Granite Falls and Mrs. David (Mary Frances) Taylor and Margaret Fowler, both of Hickory; a sister, Lettie Fowler of Granite Falls; 12 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. today at Dudley Shoals Baptist Church. The Rev. Donald Ingle and the Rev. Dewey Bailey conducted the services.
Fowler was preceded in death by a son, Wyatt Fowler.
Mackie-High Funeral Home in Granite Falls is in charge of arrangements.
