Car Jack Slips, Sligo Man Killed - Sligo - A Clarion County man was killed last evening when his car fell on him after a jack slipped. Ernest D. Shook, 60, of Sligo RD 1 was installing a muffler on the auto, parked in the driveway of his home, when the accident occurred at about 5:15 pm. Clarion County Coroner Robert V. Burns said he issued a certificate of accidental death, listing the cause as a fractured skull. Mr. Shook was born February 10, 1913, in Monroe Township, Clarion County, a son of James E. Shook and the late Jennie Hartman Shook. He was married in 1937 to the former Jessie B. Stewart, who survives. Mr. Shook was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance church of Clarion. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Kaye) Pollick and Mrs. Herman (Judy) Schwab, both of Sligo RD 1; two sons, Karl E. of La Grange, Ind., and Jack R. Shook of Clarion; three sisters, Mrs. Jesse (Bessie) Howard of North East, Mrs. Rudell (Sara) Harriger of Sligo RD and Mrs. Max (Blanch) Wiant of Coraopolis; five brothers, Ray of Curllsville, Charles of Mansfield, Ohio, Kenneth, Dale and Milford Shook, all of Sligo RD; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One brother, John, and a sister, Floy, preceded him in death. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm today at the Hawk Funeral Home in Sligo. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday in the funeral home. Rev. Homer Henkel, pastor of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Clarion, will officiate, assisted by Rev. Elwin Sherer, pastor of Sligo United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Churchville Cemetery.
