Absalom "Abner" Dicken was the 6th of 10 children born to Thomas Jefferson Dicken and Mary Marlow of Clinton Co., Ky. According to the Ky Civil War Veterans census of 1890 he enlisted as a Pvt in the Union Army's 13 Reg of the Ky Vol Cavalry, Co. H at age 19, on 19 Sept 1864. He served until 10 Jan 1865, a total of 1 year, 3 months, 11 days. About 1866 he married Elizabeth Jones (1843 Tn) and they raised 11 children in Clinton Co., Ky. Elizabeth died around 1885. In 1887, according to the 1900 census, Abner married Nora Alice Dicken and they had 2 children, George D. (Dewey) and Ida Mae. A land deed dated 26 Jul 1899 shows Nora and A. B. Dicken selling proberty to a Mr. Stone and on the 1900 census they are renting their farm. Abner is listed in a book of Clinton Co. graves as Abner B. Dicken, born Feb 1844, serving in the Civil War in Union Co. H, 13th Ky Cav, and is listed as being buried in Cave Springs Cemetery. His date of death is not known, but is between 1900 and 1910 as the 1910 census shows his wife, Nora, widowed, with their 2 children, George D. age 11, and Ida M. age 4. (later she married Isaac Edward "Ike" Young). They are living near their former home with her widowed mother, Otila (Lawhorn) Dicken.
