John R. Dicken was born near Albany, Clinton Co., KY on 5 May 1832. He was the oldest of 12 children born to Thomas Jefferson Dicken and Mary Marlow. On the Clinton Co. Marriage Index for 1855 we find that on 5 Apr 1855 John, age 21, married Martha Tallent, age 22. She was born in Cumberland Co. but resided in Clinton Co. at that time with her parents, Jesse & Priscilla (Grimes) Tallent. John & Martha had 9 children and farmed in Clinton Co., KY for many years. Then in 1884, John moved his family to Grayson Co., TX where his wife died 3 years later at the age of 54. In 1898 John moved to Maud, Bowie Co., TX & he died there in 1921 at age 89. He is buried in the Center Ridge Cemetery.

"The Dickens Family came in a covered wagon from Kentucky to Texas. Soon afterward, Papa (Alex Miller) rode a horse to Texas following Lucy Priscilla Dicken." - From the Alex Miller biography given to me by, Karen Kruse.
