Nora Alice (Dicken) Dicken (1879-1915) was one of 11 children born to James Alexander Dicken and Otila Lawhorn of Clinton Co., KY. In 1897 Alice married Absalom "Abner" Dicken (1844-1905). She was his second wife. Alice and Abner had two children together - George Dewey (1898 - 1940) and Ida Mae (Dicken) Young (1904-1995). Abner died about 1905. The 1910 census finds Nora A. age 31, her son George D. age 11, and daughter Ida M. age 4 living with Alice's widowed mother in Neathery, Clinton Co., KY. About 3 years later, in 1913, Alice resided at the Central State Hospital in Lakeland, Jefferson Co., Ky near Louisville. She lived there for 1 year, 4 months, and 22 days before she died of "organic heart disease." Her death certificate indicates her place of burial or removal was to Burnside, Pulaski Co., Ky, not far from Lakeside, but her actual gravesite is in Cave Springs Cemetery. Her short life story may possibly have been a heart-wrenching one. Her death certificate indicates she died a young widow, 36 years old, unattended by family. There was no one to submit her parents' correct names. They are listed as James Alexander and Lucinda Lawhorn. When she left for the hospital her two young children, then ages 15 and 8, probably moved in with relatives. There are so many unanswered questions about Nora Alice. May she now rest in God's peace.

Many thanks to ~*~ Angels on Find-A-Grave for the headstone photo and for confirming Nora's gravesite location.
