Sadie Underwood Dies After Short Illness Friday (3/13/1970)
Mrs. Sadie Underwood, 86, died Friday at Asbury Hospital, Salina, after an illness of only a few hours.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 16 at the Gypsum Baptist church with Rev. Bob Mincey officiating.
Casketbearers were Lawrence Ott, Jimmie Mortimer, Glen Lowman, Carl Mortimer, Verlin Everhart and Hubert Redden.
Songs were sung by Mrs. Jimmie Mortimer accompanied by Mrs. Dean Swisher.
Burial in Gypsum Cemetery. Arrangements were by Gillum Funeral Home.
Born Feb. 21, 1884 in Salina she lived most of her life in Gypsum. She worked as a seamstress. In her later years she kept active by her daily walks to the post office and grocery store.
Oldest member of the Gypsum Baptist Church she was active in the Baptist Missionary Society and the Royal Neighbors, the women’s auxiliary to the Modern Woodmen of America.
Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Cleo Drummond, Gypsum, a son, Keith, Chesterfield, Mo., a brother, Frank Snyder, Topeka; 2 sisters Mrs. Cora Winkler of Wichita, and Mrs. Laura Bogart, Gypsum; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
