Services for C. A. Underwood Wednesday

Funeral services were held yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon for Charles A. Underwood, a prominent, long-time resident of Gypsum, at the First Baptist church, with the pastor, Rev. H. G. Cooper, in charge.

Mr. Underwood was held in high esteem in this community, having spent practically all his life here as a carpenter and contractor. Until his health failed him a few years ago, he took an active part in civic affairs, having served terms both as member of the city council and as mayor. He had also held offices in the Baptist church and in the Modern Woodman lodge.

Charles Albert Underwood was born to Mr. and Mrs. Elithu Underwood March 9, 1879, near Kipp. He passed from this life November 22, 1948 at the age of 69 years, eight months, and 13 days. He lived most of his life in Gypsum, as a carpenter and contractor.

He was married to Sadie M. Snyder June 20, 1905, and to this union three children were born, Cleo Fae, Clifford Leroy and Keith Bernard. Clifford Leroy died in infancy.

Mr. Underwood was a member of the First Baptist church of Gypsum, and a member of the Modern Woodman Lodge.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Mrs. Sadie Underwood; two children, Mrs. Cleo Fae Drummond of Gypsum and Keith Bernard Underwood of Cape Girardeau, Mo. Also two sisters, Mrs. Frances Rittger, Wichita, and Mrs. Dorothea Burke, Los Angeles, Calif.; four grandchildren, Judy Fae, Donna Elaine and Danny Dale Drummond and Penelope Anne Underwood.

A number of other relatives and a host of friends will miss their loved one and friend who took his illness and suffering with a smile.

To live in the hearts of those we leave behind is not to die.
