ED. Snyder Dies January 24th

Ed. Snyder was one of the pioneer blacksmiths of Saline county. He worked for a time in Salina but the past thirty-eight years were spent in Gypsum where he worked at his trade until ill-health forced him to retire.

Edward D. Snyder was born in New Tripoli, Pa., March 3, 1853, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Cora Winkler, January 24, 1930. Age 76 years, 10 months and 21 days.

He came to Kansas in the year of 1878 where he has lived since young manhood. First coming to Salina, Kansas, and then to Gypsum, where he has been a resident for the past thirty-eight years.

He was married to Barbara Ellen Buzzard April 19, 1883 and to this union seven children were born: Mrs. Sadie Underwood, Mrs. Cora Winkler, Mrs. Laura Bogart, Mrs. Angie Pettle, and Joe Snyder, all of Gypsum, Kansas and Frank Snyder of Dodge City, Kansas. One daughter preceding him in death.

He also leaves to mourn his loss twenty grandchildren, one brother and sister of New Tripoli, Pa., and one sister of Allentown, Pa., and also a host of friends.

He was a member of the German Reformed church.

He was a kind and loving husband and father, a good friend and neighbor to all.

His loss will be keenly felt by those who are left behind.

“To live in the hearts one leaves behind is not to die.”

The funeral was held at the Methodist Episcopal Church, Sunday, January 26, with Rev. Roy Allsbury in charge, assisted by Rev. Sherman. Interment was in the Gypsum cemetery.
