Lydia Eckroate was born about 1834. She also was the ward of first her uncle John Eckrode, Sr. and in 1853 of Daniel Urshal, cousin John Eckrode, Jr. and brother-in-law Ambrose Biddle. She did not reach her majority until 1855. In 1850 Census she was listed in the household of her cousin, John Eckrode Jr. aged 16.
About 1853 Lydia married Bernard Klein and had Mary Ann born 13 October 1854; Maria born 11 April 1856, died June 13, 1864; Francis born 29 August 1857; and Louis born11 February 1860.
