WILLIE A. MOFFATT, affectionately known as “Art,” was the son of the late Charles G. and Mary M. Moffatt. He was born on June 12, 1933 in Chester County, South Carolina and departed this life on Monday, May 1, 2000.
Art received his education in the public schools of Chester County,Chester, South Carolina.
At an early age, he joined Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Chester, South Carolina where he was the pianist. He also played for other churches and was a member of several gospel quartet groups.
Art married the former Mable Gayton on July 8, 1956, and they moved to Baltimore, Maryland. From this union the couple had three children,Angela, William and Terrance, who preceded him in death.
Art was employed as a trolley car driver from 1956 until 1957. In 1957 he was employed by the State of Maryland as a supply officer. He retired from the State of Maryland in 1984.Art made numerous friends and was known for his witty sense of humor.
He was always a true friend and a devoted husband and father who will be sincerely missed by all who knew him.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Mable E. Moffatt; one daughter, Angela Moffatt-Wiggins; one son, William Moffatt; three grandchildren, Terrian Tavon, TiAwana, Travis and one adopted grandson, Tevin
Williams; four sisters, Lureatha Hoyes, Almond Brown, Mildred Foster and Annie Douglas of Rock Hill, South Carolina; two brothers, James Moffatt of Rock Hill, South Carolina and Horace Moffatt of Baltimore, Maryland; one
son-in-law, Clayton Wiggins; one daughter-in-law Michele Moffatt; six sisters-in-law, Mary Moffatt, Sophia Moffatt, Mildred Moffatt, Rosa Goodman,Helen Harris, Ernestine Duncan and Margaret Sales; two brothers-in-law,
Robert Douglas and Frank Brown; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
