Born May 28, 1914 in Stokes County, N.C., she was a daughter of El Canie & Sallie Jane Shelton Sheppard.
She was a graduate of Ridgeway High School, a member of the Ridgeway Extension Homemakers, Ridgeway Garden Club and Ridgeway Senior Citizens. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Ridgeway where she was a member of the choir, the Women's Missionary Society, a G.A. leader and a former teacher in the junior Sunday school. She was a homemaker and worked with her husband in Shropshire's General Store in Ridgeway.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Lee "Tommy" Shropshire in 1982.
She is survived by two daughters: Eleanor S. Kallam of Ridgeway and Mary Ruth Hardin of Danville; one son, Howard L. Shropshire of Ridgeway; one sister, Jackie S. Crouch of Martinsville; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She also was predeceased by a son, Joe C. Shropshire; a grandson, Paul Kallam; five sisters: Georgia S. Carter, Elsie S. Hundley, Frances Ratterree, Ruth Lambeth, Margaret Clark; and two brothers: A.G. Sheppard and Richard E. Sheppard.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Ridgeway with the Rev. Gary Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Ridgeway and at other times at the residence of Howard L. Shropshire, 571 Church St., Ridgeway.
