She was born in Patrick County on September 5, 1920 and was a daughter of the late Sallie Jane Shelton and Elkanah Sheppard. She was also preceded in death by her husband, O'Neal McIver Crouch in 1972; two brothers, Glen and Richard Sheppard; and four sisters, Frances Ratterree, Ruth Lambeth, Margaret Clark and Rachel Shropshire.
She graduated from Ridgeway High School, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder and prepared communion for 30 years.
She was a career golfer and was a charter member of Lynwood Golf and Country Club. She won the Ladies' Golf Association Tournament every year from 1970-1984, except for 1972, and also won from 1986-1993. In all, she had 29 club championships. At the ages of 66 and 72, she scored holes-in-one.
Surviving are five children, O'Neal McIver "Mac" Crouch Jr. of Winston-Salem, N.C., Sallie East of Clemmons, N.C., Nancy Clark of Bassett, Robert Crouch of Arroyo Seco, N.M., and Richard Crouch of Bassett; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Saturday at Roselawn Burial Park, followed by a memorial service at First Presbyterian Church of Martinsville. The Rev. Randy Stevens officiated.
Pallbearers were S.T. Fulcher Jr., Dale Wilson, Mark Lawrence and Alex Howard.
