In 1925 and again in 1927, D.W. Ruffin was elected to the Tennessee State Legislature. He was a devout Christian, being both an elder and a teacher at the Presbyterian Church in Covington. Some time following his marriage to Winnie, the family home burned down, taking with it many family heirlooms and memories.
Ruffin was well known and well respected in the area of Tipton County, Tennessee.
