Martha grew up in downtown Charleston, and spoke mostly of when she lived on Meeting Street. Martha was one of 9 children. She married Murray "Bill" Williams when she was 16. Since he was in the Navy, she lived in places such as Panama, Chincoteaque VA, Washington DC and Maryland. She and Bill returned to South Carolina in 1986, where she died. She had one daughter, and two grandchildren.
