Erline Fickling Griffin, 83, a retired meter maid with the Charleston Police Department, died Thursday in a local nursing home. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today in St. Barnabas Lutheran Church. Burial, directed by Stuhr's Downtown Chapel, will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Griffin was born in Charleston, a daughter of Charles B. Fickling and Mary Emerson Fickling. She was a member of St. Barnabas Lutheran Church.
Surviving are her husband, Hampton M. "Happy" Griffin; a son, George E. Griffin of Mount Pleasant; two daughters, Elizabeth G. Hutson of John's Island, and Patricia G. Lamb of Jackson, Ga.; three sisters, Mary F. Owens of Summerville
and Rosalie F. Vashon and Vera F. Stanley, both of North Charleston; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchild.
