Mrs. Cornelius Kettle, 73, long a Janesville resident, died at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Godfrey Aegerter, 614 S. Jackson street. She had been in failing health for the past two years.
Formerly Julia Schumacher, she was born July 6, 1870, in Janesville and was married to Cornelius Kettle in 1887. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Nov. 20, 1937. Mrs. Kettle was a member of St. John's Lutheran church.
Surviving are six sons, George, Cornelius and Walter Kettle, Janesville, Alex Kettle, U.S. navy serving in England, Donald Kettle with the army in the South Pacific area, and Ralph Kettle, U.S. navy, also in the Pacific; three daughters, Mmes. Silas Keller, Godfrey Aegerter and Fred Vobian, all of Janesville; 19 grandchildren, two grandsons in service; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Herman Schumacher, Janesville. Her husband died in 1940 and three children, a sister and two brothers preceded her in death.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in St. John's church, the Rev. H.C. Millus to officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. Friends may call at the Overton funeral home Thursday night and at the church where the body will lie in state from noon to the funeral hour Friday.
