RICHLAND TOWNSHIP — REED – George W., 85, Richland Township, went to be with the Lord July 23, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Jan. 11, 1928, in Dudley, Pa., son of Jonah J. and Anna R. (Black) Reed. Preceded in death by parents, three brothers and three sisters. Survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Janet R. (Roberts) Reed; son, David A., married to the former Linda Kutz, Wyomissing, Pa.; daughter, Linda L., wife of Brian Anderson, Seven Fields, Pa.; grandchildren, Amanda, wife of Michael Batts, Orlando, Fla.; Emily Reed, Wyomissing, Pa.; and Phillip and Kevin Anderson, both of Seven Fields, Pa.; brothers, Robert, married to the former Maxine Hopkins, Lewistown, Pa.; and Charles, married to the former Harriet Utz, Denton, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. George was a graduate of Stevens Trade School, Lancaster. He retired from Penelec after 43 years of service as a machinist. George was a member of Homestead Avenue United Methodist Church, where he was an usher, member of the counting team and volunteered for many functions. He enjoyed gardening and will be remembered for his tomatoes and red beats. George also enjoyed golfing and bowling. He loved his church and the Lord. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, with the Rev. Edward Wagner, officiating. Entombment, Richland Cemetery Mausoleum. The family suggests contributions be directed to Homestead Avenue United Methodist Church, 101 Homestead Ave., Johnstown, Pa. 15902, in memory of George.
