Elisha Blevins, 95, well-known county resident and former jailer of Johnson County died in a West Liberty hospital at 7:50 p.m. Thursday, March 22, after an illness of two months. Mr. Blevins was born in this county, February 17, 1867, and had lived at Staffordsville most of his life, where he was a farmer and a dealer in livestock. He was a member of the Enterprise Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Craft Blevins, whom he married sixty eight years ago; seven sons, Russell, Dayton, Beach, FL, Worthy and Elisha, Jr., both of Ashland, Paris, Staffordsville, Lewis (Judge), Kerz, three daughters, Mrs. Dennie McKenzie, Mrs. Claude Colvin and Mrs. John D. King, all of Staffordsville; one brother, George Blevins, city. Also surviving are twenty three grandchildren and twenty four great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday from the Staffordsville Baptist church with Claude Preston, Bruce Daniel and Ellis Hamilton as officiating ministers. Burial was in the family cemetery.
