Thelma Jessie Berger was born in Murphysboro on July 8, 1907, the youngest of 15 children born to Christopher Columbus and Anna J (Clipner) Bullar. Her siblings include Jennie Bullar, Anna Roseberry, Ruby Kepplar of Woodriver, Ruth Ahlheim, Helen Whitson, Sadie McBride, Edna Bauer, Alma Bradley (twin sister) of Broookfield, Missouri, Charles Bullar, Ralph Bullar, and Christ Bullar.

Thelma and Jacob J. Berger were married September 25, 1925. Their children include C. C. Berger, Bruce Berger, and Marilyn Berger. One son, Jimmy, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Berger was a member of the First Presbyterian church. Before her health failed, she had been a loyal and devoted worker, especially in the primary department mong the children.

Mrs. Berger had been in poor health about four years. She died at the age of 31 in Murphysboro.
