BIO: RALPH ENOCH HILL:
Was the sixth child and third son of Flora Ann (Brooks) Hill and Odus Grant Hill. He was born December 21, 1907, probably on a farm in Reno County, Nickerson, Partridge, Kansas area. Ralph married Katie Irene Seitz on March 15, 1941. They lived and farmed southwest of Nickerson, Kansas. Sometime in the 1960's I believe they retired and moved to Hutchinson, Kansas. Ralph and Kate had no children.
The summer of 1951 I (Phillip H. Pitzer)worked for both Uncle Frank and Uncle Ralph, they farmed together. I stayed nights with Uncle Frank mostly. I remember when I did stay with Uncle Ralph, that he and Aunt Katie milked many cows, by hand, twelve to sixteen as I remembered. Aunt Katie was as good a milker as Uncle Ralph, but I never did get the hang of it. As I remember Ralph had asthma or hay fever, he could not be around dust, it caused him to cough and be short of breath. So the summer of 1951 the hard work, stacking of hay bales, shoveling of wheat or plowing a dusty field was left for Uncle Frank or me.
Ralph died on July 29, 1981 from an inoperable malignant brain tumor. Katie died on March 14, 1983, following complications of Chemotherapy treatments taken after cancer surgery. Katie and Ralph had no children. They buried together in Memorial Park Cemetery, west of Hutchinson, Kansas. Their burial site is just across the little sidewalk from Ralph's sister Bessie Ann (Hill) Pitzer.
In the spring of 1996 it was learned by the general family that Ralph as a young man had gotten a young lady pregnant. From this a boy was born and raised by his mother. She married a Mr. Epp. Her son, Glenn took the last name of his step father Epp. I met Glenn at a family gathering at the home of Freda (Thompson) Troyer. He was 69 years of age. It was told to him that Ralph was his father at about 10 years old by his cousin Loren Thompson. Glenn was visiting his grandparents which lived near Thompson's north west of Partridge, KS. at the time. Glenn was aware of many of his cousins living in or near Hutchinson, KS. Glenn has worked as a Chevy auto mechanic for the Hutchinson Chevy dealer since he got out of the Army.
