Mrs. Edith Zorger Mapes, 71, who lived at the rear of 941 Lincoln Way NW, was pronounced dead Wednesday at 8:51 p.m. on arrival at Massillon Community Hospital, where she was taken from her home. Massillon firemen were called to the residence by police officers after Mrs. Mapes was found there by relatives. She had been under a doctor's care.

Born in Killbuck, Mrs. Mapes had lived in Massillon for the past 60 years. She retired in 1967 after 11 years service as a nurse's aide at Massillon State Hospital. She was a member of the Massillon Baptist Temple.

Mrs. Mapes was preceded in death by a daughter, Evelyn Zorger.

Survivors include her husband, Willard W. Mapes; three daughters, Peggy Zorger of Las Vegas, Nev., Mrs. Timothy (Jennifer) Perry of Massillon, and Rosemary McCreery of Texas; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Arvine Shilling of Massillon; a son, Gene Zorger of Massillon; a stepson, Willard W. Mapes Jr. of Virginia; a sister, Mrs. Clarice Cole of Massillon; a brother, Irvin Bilderback of Dalton; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Atkinson-Feucht-Shaidnagle Funeral Home here. Her pastor, the Rev. Bruce D. Cummons, will officiate. Interment will be made in Brookfield Cemetery.

Friends may call the funeral home Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
