Karl/Carl was the second of five children born to Marie Louise (Ehlert) and Wilhelm Friedrich Belling.

Karl came to America in 1883 with his wife and 5 children. He was 30 and his wife Wilhelmine "Tina" was 26. The children Wilhelm (8), Hermann (5), Albert (4), Bertha (3) and Wilhelmine (3 months) arrived in Baltimore April 15, 1883 on the SS Strassburg from Bremen, Germany. Also on the same ship was his brother Ferdinand with his young family. Karl was changed to "Carl" on the ship's manifest and he listed his destination as Baltimore. He brought with him 5 collys of luggage and listed his occupation as "joiner".

Married September 21, 1874 in Pommerania, Germany, Tina and Carl went on to have 14 children.

BELLINGS ARE MARRIED FOR FIFTY YEARS
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Belling were surprised by their sons and daughters and their wives and husbands Saturday evening at their home on West College Avenue in honor of their golden anniversary. The feature of the celebration was a supper which was followed by cards and dancing. There are five sons and three daughters in the family and it was the first time all the members had been together at one time in twelve years. The out-of-town sons and their wives were Mr. and Mrs. William Belling of Niagra and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Belling of Kaukauna.
