William was the oldest of 14 children born to Ernestine Wilhelmina (Schultz) and Carl Friedrich August Belling. He was born in Pomerania, an area that now occupies both Poland and Germany. He came with his parents and four siblings to America in 1883, arriving in Baltimore on April 15. The family settled in Appleton, WI where he married Adeline H. Kearn on 12 July 1898. Together they had four children: Viola Minnie Agnes, Ethel Catherine, Hilbert Carl and Veronaise Emilia Anna. Adeline died in 1932. In 1933 William married for a second time to Jane (Girard) Steffke, a widow with two children, Eva and Joseph.

Jane died in 1954 and is buried with her first husband, Otto Steffke.

William died two years later in 1956 and was laid beside his first wife Adeline.




WILLIAM BELLING

William Belling, 82, of 1018 Buchholz St., Two Rivers, died late Sunday at the Memorial Hospital at Iron Mountain, Mich., where he had been confined since he was stricken with illness several days ago while visiting with relatives at nearby Niagara, Wis.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Emanuel Evangelical United Brethren Church, Two Rivers, the Rev. M.J. Rochrdanz officiating. Burial will be in Forest View Cemetery, Two Rivers.

William Belling was born in Germany on July 19, 1874, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Belling. When he was seven years old the family brought him to this country, settling at Appleton. In 1899 he married the former Adeline Kearn at Appleton and a short while later the couple moved to Niagara. The family came to Two Rivers 28 years ago where Mr. Belling was employed at the F. Eggere Plywood & Veneer Co., for more than 10 years. He retired about 15 years ago. His wife died in Two Rivers 24 years ago and in 1933 he married Jane Girard at Two Rivers. She died there in 1954. Since, he had been living with his son in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Rousse of 1018 Buchholz St., Two Rivers.

Surviving Mr. Belling are two other daughters, Mrs. Matt Gennrich of Niagara and Mrs. Louis Knutson of Marinette; two sons, Herbert Belling and Joseph Steffke of Marinette; a sister, Mrs. Nathan Rogers of Appleton, a brother, Emil Bellings of Appleton; 17 grandchildren and 25 great Grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Klein & Stangel, Inc. Funeral Home, Two Rivers, after 2 p.m. Tuesday until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday when the casket will be taken to the church.
