Born Karl Friedrich August Belling, Charles was the sixth of fourteen children born to Ernestine "Tina" Wilhelmine (Schultz) and Karl/Carl Friedrich August Belling. He was the first of the children to be born in America after they immigrated from Germany in 1883. On February 13, 1903 he married Sophia Kroll from Kaukauna and together they had twelve children: Lillian Marie, Aloysious Charles, Carl Richard, Roy Thomas, Helen Marie, Olive Iva, Ruby Eva, Laverne Charles, James Kermit, Elaine Ruth, John Richard and Joyce Ann.

Charles F. Belling, 58, 807 Draper street, Kaukauna, died at his home at 9 o'clock last night after a month's illness.
Born Sept. 29, 1885, in New London, he resided in Kaukauna since 1903.
Survivors are the widow; five daughters, Mrs. Melvin Skalmusky, Elaine and Joyce, Kaukauna; Mrs. Paul Wydeven, Kimberly; Mrs. William Melchert, South Milwaukee; five sons, Jack, Roy, Alois, Kaukauna; Private James Belling, who is in the army; Carl, Rhinelander; 17 grandchildren; three brothers, Emil, Appleton; Albert, Menasha; William, Two Rivers; three sisters, Mrs. Charles Witt, Mrs. Thomas Murphy, Mrs. Nathan Rogers, Appleton.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 Saturday morning at Holy Cross church, with cortege forming at 9 o'clock at the residence. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. The body may be viewed at the residence after 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. The rosary will be recited at the home at 8 o'clock Thursday and Friday evening.
