George served as a Staff Sergeant & Central Fire Control on B-29 "Calamity Jane" #42-24589, 25th Bomber Squadron, 40th Bomber Group, Very Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Butler County, Ohio prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on August 28, 1940, prior to the war, at Fort Thomas, Newport, Kentucky. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Farm Hand and also as Single, without dependents.

B-29 #42-24589 took off, with a crew of 12, from Chakulia Airfield, India on a combat mission over Singapore.

They are believed to have either been hit by ground anti-aircraft fire or attacked by a Japanese fighter plane. They are also believed to have crashed at sea southwest of Singapore.

George was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
