Son of Mrs. Ruth Chapman who resided in Granite City, Illinois.

Lee served as a Sergeant & Left Gunner on B-29 "Calamity Jane" #42-24589, 25th Bomber Squadron, 40th Bomber Group, Very Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in St. Clair County, Illinois prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on April 6, 1942 in Peoria, Illinois. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

B-29 #42-24589 took off, with a crew of 12, from Chakulia Airfield, India on a combat mission over Singapore.

They are believed to have either been hit by ground anti-aircraft fire or attacked by a Japanese fighter plane. They are also believed to have crashed at sea southwest of Singapore.

Lee was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
