Raymond served as a First Lieutenant & Navigator on B-29 "Calamity Jane" #42-24589, 25th Bomber Squadron, 40th Bomber Group, Very Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Austin County, Texas prior to the war.

B-29 #42-24589 took off, with a crew of 12, from Chakulia Airfield, India on a combat mission over Singapore.

They are believed to have either been hit by ground anti-aircraft fire or attacked by a Japanese fighter plane. They are also believed to have crashed at sea southwest of Singapore.

Raymond was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross", Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Purple Heart.
